The site’s most attractive adjacency is Maywood Park to the south. This park is a vital community asset for the livability of the neighbourhood.
The 32-storey tower with 298 new homes accommodate a significant share of Burnaby’s population growth, and as prescribed in the Metrotown Downtown Plan, is 100% residential.
Studio and 1-bedroom homes, maximize affordability and cater to local, working residents while a significant number of large 2-bed and 3-bed homes to cater to young families and downsizing residents. All units have balconies for outdoor space enjoyment, and amenities include a major common space for gatherings.
The building seeks a quiet stance as a backdrop against the park to the south. Simple glazing patterns with accent window-wall spandrel glazing are gathered between vertical structural elements configured to accentuate the verticality of an otherwise modestly proportioned 32-storey tower. A deep and substantial brick base and brick ground plane landscape elements create an emphatic foundation for the building.
Building materials and colors are intended to complement the “tower in the park” concept by using natural and sometimes weathering materials. Earthy tones are anticipated with moss green accent spandrel glazing, sandstone colored brick at the base and landscape elements, light green balcony guardrails. Weathering timber landscape elements and corten steel accent finishes are intended to imply a back to nature approach to the design.
